A culture of collaboration and trust in the capabilities of our students provide a vast array of leadership opportunities. Students relish the opportunity to make decisions, take on responsibility and have an input into the direction of the College. Student leaders at Ormiston College are brought together by a common goal, and are driven by a shared interest in giving back to the school and the wider community.
Our students are encouraged to take and create opportunities, and to empower their peers through taking initiative and upholding the values of the College. They care for the needs of the student body by liaising with staff, organising events and facilitating and participating in community activities and fundraising.
Some of Ormiston College's most inspirational leaders are students and, as such, leadership plays a vital role in an Ormiston College education.
“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other“John F. Kennedy
By the Upper Junior Years, students have already experienced many ways in which to display responsibility, including opportunities to act as Junior School Leaders and House Captains. Within the College, there are five student leadership committees, administered by the Senior students: Academic Leadership, Cultural Leadership, School Community Leadership, Sporting Leadership and Social Justice Leadership. These committees necessitate involvement from both Junior and Secondary students.
At the end of each year, it is College tradition for the departing graduates to hand over the Mantle of Leadership to Year 11 students who will take over the role of College Captains and Prefects in the forthcoming year. By the time students reach their final years of schooling, leadership and the important part it plays within the school community is irrefutable.
