The Secondary Robotics Club showcased their resilience and ingenuity at the RoboRAVE World Championships held over the weekend of 13 and 14 July at the Sunshine Coast University. This year marked the third year that Ormiston College has participated at RoboRAVE and the largest number of teams that have ever been taken to the competition.
Competing among over 1,100 participants from around the globe, the seven teams from Ormiston College teams faced an extraordinary challenge even before the event began. In an unfortunate incident, all the robotics equipment and robots which were stored in the CLI, where irretrievable due to a fire. This setback could have ended their journey before it even started however the determined students rallied together borrowing equipment from the Junior School and the Technology Department to build their robots and compete in just 48 hours.
Despite the new robots being less refined than the originals that they had meticulously worked on throughout Semester 1, the students were undeterred, and their efforts paid off as they were honoured with the 2024 Spirit of the RoboRAVE award for their resilience, teamwork and tenacity to attend and compete in the event despite the setbacks.
While the teams did not place on the podium they represented Ormiston College with distinction, positive attitude and a fighting Redback spirit.
