Ormiston College competed in the annual Queensland State da Vinci Decathlon competition which took place at St Joseph’s Nudgee College on Wednesday 22 May. This academic competition brings bright young minds together to compete in a series of challenging, timed tasks across 10 disciplines: Engineering, Mathematics, Code Breaking, Art and Poetry, Science, English, Ideation, Creative Producers, Cartography and Legacy. The competition is open to students in Years 5 to 11 and schools are only allowed to enter one team in each year level.

Teams of eight students from both Years 7 and 8 have been training and preparing under the guidance of Staff members for the Queensland event. After battling it out in a fierce competition against teams from over fifty schools across the state, the Ormiston College teams achieved the following results:

YEAR 7

  • 2nd place in Cartography
  • 2nd place in Legacy
  • 3rd place in Science
  • Overall position: 1st place – Year 7 Queensland Champions

YEAR 8

  • 1st place in Mathematics
  • 2nd place in Science
  • Overall position: 2nd place

Congratulations go out to both teams on attaining these terrific results. Their achievement is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and collaborative spirit. As winners of the State competition, our Year 7 students have secured a place in the National event taking place in Sydney next month.
