Ormiston College is proud to celebrate the success of Business students, Maia and Sofia, who have received a Highly Commended Award in the Years 10-12 category of the 2024 Buy Smart Competition. This remarkable achievement highlights their creativity and critical thinking in raising awareness around financial literacy.
Organised by the Queensland Government, the Buy Smart Competition challenges students to develop a creative project explaining a prominent issue related to shopping or money and to provide the audience with tips to help navigate these challenges. Competing against more than 8,000 students from schools across the state, Year 10 students, Maia and Sofia, impressed the judges with their comprehensive brochure educating young women on the potential risks of shopping online.
The students were formally recognised at an awards ceremony held at Parliament House where they were presented the award by The Honourable Deb Frecklington, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity. Congratulations to Maia and Sofia on this remarkable achievement.
