Before the commencement of Term 1, Ormiston College’s newest Secondary School students gathered for the Year 7 Making Connections Orientation Day. This event, which forms part of the Making Connections program, provides both new and continuing students with the opportunity to build friendships, navigate their new learning environment, and develop a sense of belonging as they transition from Primary to Secondary school.
Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of activities aimed at fostering friendships and strengthening school spirit. These included:
- Getting to know each other activities within their Wellbeing classes
- Building House spirit with their House Coordinators and House Captains
- Exploring the campus through guided tours led by Year 11 Mentors
- Familiarisation with ICT and Library services
- Having fun playing oval games with their House mates
In addition to the support from their Wellbeing Teachers, Year 11 Student Mentors and Year 12 House Captains played a guiding role during the orientation. These Senior students helped create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, leading campus tours and facilitating spirit activities. Year 11 Student Mentors provide ongoing support by connecting with Year 7 students during Wellbeing Class every week.
The Making Connections program is a unique initiative designed to support Year 7 students over the course of their first year in Middle School. The program ensures students feel assured and supported as they navigate this new chapter of their education.
With the support of their Wellbeing Teachers, Year 11 Mentors and new friends, Year 7 students can feel more confident and excited to embrace the year of learning ahead.
