The Lingo Lin Performing Arts Theatre at Ormiston College was transformed into a winter wonderland as Junior School students took to the stage in a magical rendition of Disney’s Frozen Jr. The production saw three performances across Friday 31 May and Saturday 1 June and each was met with rapturous applause from the delighted audience.
Auditions were held in Term 1 of this year and the excited cast and crew of over 100 students assembled soon after for a jam-packed rehearsal schedule.
“Through this process, the students of the Ormiston College Speech and Drama program have worked incredibly hard to create a high-quality performance, always returning to the values they have learned here at school,” said Ormiston College Teacher and Director of the production, Julianne Clinch.
Frozen follows the story of two sisters, Anna and Elsa, who live in the kingdom of Arendelle. Elsa possesses magical powers of ice and snow, but she struggles to control them and fears hurting others. When young Elsa (Ruby Haynes) accidentally hurts young Anna (Isla Bateman), their parents take them to the mystical leaders of the Hidden Folk (Benjamin Vidler and Katie Sutherland), where Anna is revived, and her memories of Elsa’s magic are erased. Years later, Elsa’s (Isabella Stone) powers become accidently exposed during her coronation, leading her to leave Arendelle. Anna (Isobel Laming) then sets out to find her estranged sister and restore their kingdom from eternal winter with the help of some news friends Olaf (Edison Ai), Kristoff (James Hoitink), Sven (Sophie Papa) and Oaken (Molly-Rose Thaesler).
Speaking about the team effort a production like this requires, Ormiston College Teacher and Music Director of the production, Kaitlin Oliver-Parker said “Behind the scenes our dedicated team of performers, technicians, creatives, and volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of this production shines with the same brilliance as Elsa's ice palace.”
“Under the direction of our expert drama teachers, dedicated staff and fantastic band of parent helpers the cast have had a once in a lifetime experience and created many fond memories,” Acting Head of Junior Years and Producer, Erin Ware concluded.
