On Wednesday, 29 January, the Ormiston College community came together on the lawns outside the Somerset Sports Centre, Hall of Fame for the annual Welcome Back BBQ. This much-loved event marked the start of the 2025 school year, bringing together families and College staff in a relaxed atmosphere after the first exciting day of school.
One of the highlights of this year’s event was the opportunity for families to meet Mr Michael Hornby, the new Headmaster of Ormiston College. Parents and students were able to connect with Mr Hornby, along with teachers, Year Level Coordinators, and Leadership Teams in an informal setting, asking questions and learning more about the year ahead. For many, the BBQ was also a chance to catch up with friends, welcome new families, and strengthen community ties.
Adding to the lively atmosphere was special musical guest, Mr Leon Iconomidis, who performed a collection of popular tunes, creating a festive backdrop to the afternoon’s event along with games and activities on the lawn.
With a sausage sizzle, live music, games and conversation; the Welcome Back BBQ was a great way to start the new school year and set the tone for a year filled with learning, friendship, and community spirit.
