Spark their passion for learning.
As one of Brisbane and Redlands’ leading independent primary schools, Ormiston College is the ideal entry point to school life for your child.
Prep is the first entry point into the College, and our Junior School captures our village community feel as students move through two important phases of learning: The Early Years Phase (Prep to Year 3) and the Upper Junior Years Phase (Year 4 to Year 6).
During the Early Years, core skills and the foundations for future success are laid. Our Prep program is filled with the buzz and activity of all our busy little bodies exploring their environment, learning new skills and generally having fun.
We believe that children learn best in a play-based environment.
Inspiration and empowerment
As students continue their journey into Years 1, 2 and 3 they are inspired and empowered through innovative learning strategies to explore their world and develop a deep love of lifelong learning. Priority is given to literacy and numeracy development because these are the foundations on which further learning is built.
Mathematics
Complementing this is the Mathematics curriculum which develops a sense of number, order, sequence, pattern and position, using the students’ environment. It introduces mathematical symbols and language to communicate and explain mathematical ideas; it presents simple strategies to pose basic mathematical questions and to investigate and solve simple, concrete problems.
Science, Humanities and Social Sciences
Purposeful exploration in personal and familiar contexts provides an opportunity for students to harness their curiosity about people, places and how their world works, as they develop skills in inquiry and investigation in Science, and Humanities and Social Sciences.
